"Made in the USA"

How can you support local manufacturing and still utilize the savings of sourcing overseas?

We all feel different emotions when we see a "made in USA" sticker or tag on a product that you are purchasing. Being the son of hard working American factory worker, I understand how important the jobs are to these men and women.

Many companies that we discuss the benefits of sourcing overseas, always are hesitant to take away jobs from fellow Americans. There are ways to utilize American made products and integrate products into your program from overseas as well. One key opportunity that we mention is that the product can be put into a package that is made in Asia and can save them up to 30%. So you can still proudly say that the product is made in the USA, and still save with the packaging from another country.

We would love to hear any of your suggestions/success stories on how you were able to combine importing and domestic manufacturing.

A Pizza is a Pizza.... right??

There are some things in life that are universal and some that are not. Through extensive traveling all over the world I have found this to always be true.

If you buy a pepperoni pizza in the USA compared to Vietnam, it might be pretty good, but it’s just not the same. It’s same same, but different (a little local VN phrase). It has all the same ingredients as the US, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce and crust. So with all of those ingredients how could it taste different, right? Well, I don’t know how to describe it but it just does. You had expectations before you tried it, but it just fell short.

In the same way as pizza’s being same but different, so can sourcing companies. Sourcing companies are located all over the world and are being used by manufacturers and retail, more and more each year.

Sourcing company’s services as styles vary greatly and offer many different types of services and customer service styles. Some important items to research before using a sourcing company are:

· What countries do they cover?

· Do they travel to the areas they source from?

· Do they speak the language?

· What type of QC (quality control) do they offer?

· How easy is it to get in communication with the agent?

· Do they have a web presence?

· Do they have staff overseas?

· How well do they track your container over the ocean?

· Is there pricing competitive? (Obvious)

These are just a few ideas to consider when choosing your sourcing company to find your next product.
